Which type of loft ladder is best for your home?

12th September 2018

Lofts can be a great source of storage for many of us. If you have had loft boarding done in your home, you are more than likely eager to start using your new space. Adding a loft ladder can make accessing that space much easier, not to mention safer.

Installing a loft ladder can rid you of the nightmare we have all experienced – awkwardly balancing on a chair or step ladder, juggling boxes which are falling apart, with a torch in your mouth.

What to consider

It may not be something you’ve thought too much into, but before having your ladder installed, you should consider a few factors:

  • Who’s going to be using the ladder to access the loft? – If your ladder will be used by children or older persons accessing the loft, you will be considering ease and safety above all else. Whereas if you are someone in a trade who will be up and down daily with heavy tools, you will be looking for durability.
  • How often will it be used?  – As above, if you are planning to use your loft daily, you want a ladder that will withstand the use and weight which may push you towards an aluminium ladder, with slip-resistant rungs for safer, more comfortable climbing.
  • How much space do you have in your home? – Depending how much size you have available or the size of the loft hatch itself will play a part in the ladder choice for you.
We offer The Concertina or Telescopic ladders, which are both specifically designed for limited space or smaller hatches.
