How to Improve House Insulation

1st April 2016

A well known way to improve the insulation of your home is by installing loft insulation; however there are even more simple changes and installations you can invest in to improve your home’s efficiency even further.

Thermal Foil Loft Lining

Add extra energy efficiency to your home while protecting your belongings from roof debris with our Thermal foil insulation lining.

Loft Hatch Replacement

Old or inadequate loft hatches are the easiest way for heat to escape from your home, into the loft, and out through the roof. Not only do poor loft hatches create pesky draughts throughout a property, but they will also raise your energy bills. At Instaloft, we pride ourselves on only fitting loft hatches and loft access doors that meet our strict requirements to give our customers the best result possible. All of our loft hatches are chosen to comply with the following standards:

  • Satisfy all NHBC Requirements
  • Meet ALL Relevant British Standards
  • Manufactured to BS EN ISO 9001 : 2000
  • Comply with Building Regulations Document L1A & L2A (2006 Edition)

Not only can we replace your old hatch with a new, energy efficient model, but we can also relocate your loft hatch to a more convenient and safe location of your choosing or by our recommendation. If you live in an older property, you may find your loft hatch is much smaller than the modern day standard which can be awkward and even troublesome to access. This is an issue Instaloft can also remedy with our loft enlargement service. With prices from just £99, if you live in the West Midlands, call us about your loft hatch requirements today.

If you find quotes much cheaper than our own, please be aware that many loft ladder and hatch installers will simply cut a piece of MDF with screwed in hinges. These are usually unsealed and not insulated, meaning they will act as a funnel for all heat to escape through and will not give you the energy savings you are looking, and will in fact cost you more.

Extra Insulation

Have you checked if your loft insulation is up to current standards? If not, then there could be even more savings to be had! Current regulations under the EEC programme states that a minimum 270mm of loft insulation is required. If you already have existing loft insulation which isn’t 270mm thick, you can have additional layers added to bring it up to the required thickness. Raised Loft Boarding

Raised loft boarding will further enhance the effects of loft insulation which is something that boarding your loft with timber will not do. As well as adding value to your home as a sound investment, loft boarding creates a safe and accessible space for storage and can even add up to 50% of your homes floor space. So not only will raised loft boarding help you to safely store your belongings, but will over time, save you money on your energy bills too.
