Quality of Loft Flooring

We only install a system that we would install in our own homes – which we have! We are proud to be part of a UK network of installers that only install the Award Winning Raised Loft Zone Loft Boarding System. It’s strong, safe, long lasting and is the only system with ce kitemarked parts. The Loft Zone system also protects your insulation, wiring and pipework and does not cause damp or interstitial condensation like standard boarding can. Find out more here.

Other boarding companies:
Standard loft boarding is generally boarding directly onto the joists or using sub-standard timber to raise the level of the floor to ‘accommodate’ any insulation. Boarding directly onto the joists causes thermal bridging which means condensation can build up and cause problems with damp. Raised flooring using timber stilts is also insufficient as they add a lot of weight to your existing flooring and also is insufficient in height to allow insulation to breath, which will again cause issues with damp. Damp issues within your loft can compromise the structure of your house which can cost thousands to correct.

Loft Boarding Safety

Our Loftzone Storefloor installations hold up to a MASSIVE 500kgs per square meter as it made from extremely strong engineering grade plastic and galvanised steel cross beams which surpasses the British Standard 6399-1:1996 for minimum imposed floor load requirements.. Again it is the only system in the UK that has been approved by the BBA for the safe boarding out of lofts.

Other boarding companies:
If installed well, standard boarding is safe as its uses the existing structure of the house as its base, if installed badly you are likely to fall through your loft to the room below. If the timber gets damp, over time it will become soft and unsupportive.

Cost of Loft Boarding

Our quotes generally range between £800 and £1300 for the average sized house. This includes the raised flooring area, a loft ladder, a light fitted by a professional electrician and possibly a new enlarged loft hatch. Loft boarding for New builds however tends to be a cheaper as less construction is required.

Other boarding companies:
Depending on whether they have said they will raise the floor and of course the size of the area to be boarded, other loft boarding companies will quote from £399-£799+. Remember if the price seems too good to be true, it usually is.
